Karun Nair was born on 6 December 1991 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His father’s name is Kaladharan Nair who is a mechanical engineer and his mother is a teacher at Prema Nair Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bangalore. He has an elder sister named Shruti Nair.
He completed his schooling from Chinmaya School and Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore. After completing his schooling, he completed B.Com (Hons) from Jain University, Bangalore.
He can speak many languages like English, English, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil. His mother tongue is Malayalam.
Karun Nair joined the Koramangala Cricket Academy on March 28, 2001 and was trained under Sivananda.

On 20 February 2012, he made his List-A debut against Goa. On 17 March 2013, he made his first-class debut in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy.
He made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the year 2012.
