Neeraj Chopra was born on December 24, 1997 in Khandara village of Panipat district, his father’s name is Satish Kumar and mother’s name is Saroj Devi. Neeraj is the eldest of his five siblings and he also has two sisters.

When Neeraj Chopra was only eleven years old, his weight was 80 kg, which was too much for such a young child, so he started training in the stadium of Panipat to reduce his weight and here he trained athlete Jaiveer. Saw him practicing the javelin throw game and from there he decided to make a career in it.
Neeraj started his training in javelin at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Panchkula, Haryana, and due to lack of proper facilities, he continued his training at Taluka Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana.
After years of training, he participated in many national and international javelin throw competitions and brought many laurels to the country. He has won various medals in competitions like Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships.

As an obese child, at the age of 11, he weighed 80 kg. He went to Panipat Stadium during the holidays to get the body in shape.
His pocket money was about 30 rupees and for many days he did not have money even for a glass of juice. He traveled about 17 kms to reach the stadium and returned with his uncle, who used to work in the city of Panipat.
Although he was running to lose weight, he was not enjoying it. He stood at a distance watching his senior Jaiveer, who has represented Haryana in javelin, practice.
One day, at his behest, Neeraj tried the spear. He learned that he could throw it far and this realization made him a javelin thrower.

- Neeraj had achieved his first historic victory in the National Junior Championships held in Lucknow in the year 2012. Participating in Under-16 in this competition, he created a record by throwing 68.46 meters javelin and won the gold medal in this competition.
- Participated in National Youth Championship in the year 2013 and due to his brilliant game made his place in IAAF World Youth Championship.
- In 2015, during the Inter University Championships, he set a new record in the age group by throwing a javelin distance of 81.04 metres.
- Neeraj participated in the Junior World Championships in 2016 and won the gold medal by setting a new record in javelin throw of 86.48 meters.
- In the year 2016, Neeraj won the gold medal at the South Asian Games with his stellar javelin throw of 82.23 metres. He equaled the Indian national record with his javelin throw of 82.23 metres.
- In the year 2017 Asian Athletic Championship 2017 won another gold medal with a throw of 85.23m.
- In May 2018, he again broke the national record in the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 87.43m.
- On 27 August 2018, Neeraj threw the javelin with a distance of 88.06 meters to win gold in the men’s javelin throw at the 2018 Asian Games and set a new Indian national record, surpassing his previous record.

Neeraj sealed his place in the final by throwing a javelin to a distance of 86.65 meters and also holds the record for being the first Indian to reach the final in the game of javelin throw.
