Rowan Atkinson was born on 6 January 1955 in Consett, County Durham, England. His father Eric Atkinson was a farmer and his mother Ella May Atkinson was a company director. He is the youngest of the four children of his parents. He has 3 siblings; Paul Atkinson, Rodney Atkinson, Rupert Atkinson.

He completed his schooling from Durham Choristers School and then St Bees School. He then earned a degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Newcastle University. He then obtained a master’s degree in electrical engineering from The Queen’s College, Oxford.

Personal Life

Rowan Atkinson met makeup artist Sunetra Shastri in the late 1980s and married her in February 1990. They have two children: Benjamin Atkinson, Lily Atkinson.

But they got divorced in the year 2015. In 2013, at the age of 58, Atkinson began dating 32-year-old comedian Lewis Ford after meeting her while performing in a play together.

Career

He began performing sketches while studying at Oxford, first appearing in the Oxford Revue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Soon, he began to entertain in theater clubs and on BBC Radio 3’s comedy shows.

Atkinson starred in a series of comedy shows for BBC Radio 3 in 1979 called The Atkinson People.

In 1979, Atkinson starred in the BBC’s Not the Nine O’Clock News. In 1981, Atkinson became the youngest cast member to star in a one-man show in the West End.

Rowan Atkinson made his film debut in the 1983 James Bond film Never Say Never Again.

Atkinson later appeared in such theatrical productions as The Nerd (1984), The New Review (1986) and The Sneezes (1988). He then appeared in television shows such as Not the Nine O’Clock News (1979–1982), Blackadder (1983–1989) and The Thin Blue Line (1995–1996).
