Venkaiah Naidu was born on 1 July 1949 in a village called Chavatapalem in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. He did his schooling from Nellore’s V.R. He did high school and graduated in politics from VR College. After this he again obtained a law degree from the Andhra University of College and Law, Visakhapatnam.

Venkaiah Naidu got a political identity from the Jai Andhra movement in the year 1972 and it came in the public eye. At this time this movement was being led by Kakini Venkata Ratnam. Venkaiah Naidu was very active in this movement and he remained associated with it till it was completely over. In 1974, Venkaiah Naidu also worked as the convener of Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti of Andhra Pradesh in Jai Prakash Narayan’s anti-corruption campaign. Venkaiah Naidu’s political career was active from his student life. He worked as a successful spokesperson in student politics and subsequent high-level politics. His speech power had a profound effect on the farmers and the people of the backward castes as well. On the strength of his political abilities, he was appointed twice in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Udayagiri assembly constituency. For the first time in the year 1978 and the second time in the year 1983, he won the election from here, and in this way he became a famous leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh.
Between 1980-85, he was the Legislative Leader of the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh state. Apart from this, he was the BJP President of Andhra Pradesh region between 1988-93, National General Secretary of BJP from 1993-2000 and at the same time, General Secretary, BJP Parliamentary Board. After this, he worked for the Bharatiya Janata Party in many positions at the state and central level and in the year 1998 he was appointed as the Rajya Sabha MP of Karnataka. Between 1996 and 2000, he also worked as a party spokesperson. Despite being a leader of South India, he insisted on speaking English in his rallies, so that more and more people could understand his political views.
After winning the Lok Sabha elections by the NDA in the year 1999, he was included in the cabinet of the Central Government and was given the charge of the Ministry of Rural Development. While fulfilling the workload of this ministry, he developed the country by completing ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’ and other similar schemes. In the year 2002, he took over as the National President of Bharatiya Janata Party in place of Jana Krishnamurthy. In view of his working style, in the year 2004, he was appointed as the National President for a full period of 3 years without any opposition.
On the defeat of the BJP-run National Democratic Alliance government of the year 2004, he resigned from the post of the party’s national president on 18 October 2004 and was replaced by him. Lal Krishna Advani took over this assignment. However, even after this, he remained the face of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh. He was re-appointed from the post of Karnataka Rajya Sabha in 2004 and 2010. From April 2005, he was also the Deputy President of the Bharatiya Janata Party. After the historic victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 2014, he took oath as the Minister of Urban Development.

Venkaiah Naidu also has an organization of his own in the name of ‘Swarna Bharat Trust’. This trust works to provide education to the children of poor and self employment training for the youth. With the help of this trust, many resourceless children get education and at the same time many youth get an opportunity to stand on their own feet. With the help of this organization, the work of women empowerment is also done.
In view of the task of discharging these big and responsible duties, the National Democratic Alliance has appointed him as its candidate in the election of the Vice-President. If he wins the election for the post of Vice President, then he will get the charge in place of Dr Hamid Ansari, the then Vice President of India.
