He was born in a Mangalorean Tulu speaking family on 11 August 1961 in Mulki Mangalore Karnataka. Despite being 60 years old, he is keeping himself quite fit.

Sunil made his debut as an actor in 1992 with the film Balwaan, after the success of which he did several films, later appeared as a director in the 2003 film Khel-Koi Sardar Khel Nahi.

In 2007, he also did well in the TV show Biggest Loser Jeetega.

He holds a black belt in kickboxing and has clothing boutiques as well as restaurants specializing in Udupi cuisine.

He made his place in Bollywood as an action hero in films, then earned a lot of name in Bollywood by giving one hit film after another.
